Interviewing Yo

I remember learning in psych that being unemployed can change your personality. After rejected applications, less than perfect interviews, and walk-ins gone wrong, sure, you won’t be feeling your best and therefore won’t really be your best self.

That’s why wearing an interviewing outfit that makes you feel confident and beautiful is important.

Lucky for me, when you are in fashion you can break some of the old rules of what you wear to an interview. Fashion is forward-thinking and fast-moving. I wear white after Labor Day. I wore white at the interview, and I didn’t get spaghetti sauce on myself at lunchtime. #BecauseImmaG

I chose to wear one of my favorite colors, teal, even though its not necessarily my best color (but come on, I look good in everything). This was another way to make me feel confident, or at least have some comfort in something I know that I like. Your likes, interests – this is part of who you are; you’re identity. If you know who you are and stay true to yourself, you will be confident.

Ruffles are a classic staple that add flow to an outfit, and rather than a black pencil skirt I chose a marled gray one. It’s winter appropriate and super comfy, and I wore it nannying afterwards. What three year old can resist snuggling with you when you are soft and cozy? Physical touch and texture, hardness or softness, roughness or smoothness, can affect how we feel towards others (via a handshake, a hug) and ourselves (basically my skirt was my security blanket). #BecauseEvenGangstasNeedAWooby

The outfit turned out to be somewhat “arctic” with cool colors and thoughts of icebergs, cold water, snow and mountains. I accessorized with classic pearls and wore heeled booties rather than traditional pumps since its the Pacific Northwest where we live in boots most of the year. And because…

When you are doing something that makes you a bit nervous, you want to walk with confidence and not worry about tripping or tipping over. Especially as you reach to shake someone’s hand, or walk down the runway, or the aisle on your wedding day. Jeez, on second thought, women are obliged to wear heels in highly visible situations.

Or if you’re only 4’11 and 3/4. #YesImmAShorty

Listen to some Wu-Tang as you drive to the interview, and walk it out in confidence. And no matter how it goes – be confident in knowing who you are. #DollaDollaBillYall

Items: Ruffle Top (LOFT seems to come out with various colors depending on the season) / Gray Cozy Skirt / White Blazer replica at H&M / pearls an expensive, yet high quality set is always worth the investment because you can wear them with anything and they make perfect heirlooms to pass on.
